Explore Durham with a digital scavenger hunt

A new iPhone app is the basis of a digital scavenger hunt through Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. — With a little help from a new iPhone app, you can explore Durham with a digital scavenger hunt – and score some giveaways, unlock secret menu items and receive discounts along the way.

From August 16-30, over 25 local businesses will participate in a Bull City Secrets scavenger hunt. Participants must download the free PopUp app to receive clues and notifications about menu items, freebies and promotions.

The app is similar to Foursquare. After arriving at a physical location, users can leave digital notes for themselves or others to read, or read notes left by other people and businesses. For the scavenger hunt, digital clues will be left at locations around Durham, and it's up to you to find them!

The scavenger hunt runs on a point system. You earn one point for every secret you discover, every find you share to Facebook, and every "popup" or note you leave. The winner will be announced in early September.

Bull City Secrets also has more fun stuff to give away: the user with the most popups redeemed and the most shared popups will receive a $500 American Express gift card, and the business with the most secrets redeemed will win $500 for their favorite charity.
