Ex-Bragg soldiers sentenced in bank robberies
A federal judge on Thursday handed down prison sentences to a pair of former Fort Bragg soldiers who pleaded guilty to robbing Fayetteville banks nearly a year ago.
Posted — UpdatedKali Eloi Robinson, 25, was sentenced to 13½ years on two counts of armed bank robbery and one count of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
Christopher Bernard Jackson, 23, was sentenced to 8½ years on one count each of armed bank robbery and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
Both men pleaded guilty to robbing the RBC Centura bank, on Village Drive, on Jan. 6. Robinson also pleaded to robbing the RBC Centura bank, on South McPherson Street, on Dec. 22, 2008.
Investigators said the two men were caught after a dye pack exploded in their getaway vehicle after the Jan. 6 bank robbery.
"Masked gunmen entering a local bank is the definition of a nightmare," U.S Attorney George E.B. Holding said in a statement. "We are simply fortunate that none of the innocent victims were hurt. We appreciate the sentences the court imposed."
Both men were petroleum-supply specialists with the E Troop, 1-117 Calvary, 82nd Airborne Division.
Robinson joined the Army in February 2008, and Jackson in April 2007. Robinson is originally from Powder Springs, Ga., and Jackson from Conyers, Ga., two towns outside Atlanta.
