RALEIGH, N.C. — A state worker was seriously injured Monday morning when a piece of equipment fell over on him outside the State Archives downtown, authorities said.

Two workers were setting up a scissor lift at about 9 a.m. when the lift toppled and landed on one of the men, said Chris Mears, a spokesman for the state Department of Administration.

The men work for the department's Facility Management Division and were working on exterior lighting at the archives building, at 109 E. Jones St., when the accident occurred, Mears said.

The injured worker, whose name hasn't been released, was in the intensive care unit at WakeMed, suffering from head trauma.
State Capitol Police and the state Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Division are investigating the accident.
