Garner's Scotty McCreery, the winner of last season's "American Idol," is among three nominees for the Academy of Country Music New Artist of the Year award.

The Academy of Country Music presents its annual awards in Las Vegas on April 1.

McCreery, a Garner High School senior whose debut album, "Clear As Day," was certified platinum, was recently named No. 1 on Billboard magazine's list of Top New Country Artists for 2011.

"Clear As Day" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release.

He is currently touring as part of Brad Paisley's Virtual Reality Tour 2012, and is scheduled to perform at halftime Sunday at the annual Hoops for Hope event hosted by the North Carolina State University women's college basketball team.

McCreery will compete against Brantley Gilbert and Hunter Hayes for new artist honors. Fans can cast their vote online at voteacm.com from March 19 through April 1.
