State Fair targets 1 million visitors
The State Fair's all-time attendance record of 877,939 was set only last year, but that record will likely fall Saturday – with one more day still to go. Sunny, mild weather could draw more fairgoers.

The attendance record of 877,939 was set only last year, but that record seemed likely to fall Saturday – with one more day still to go, said spokesman Brian Long.
Sunny, mild weather this weekend could help swell the crowds even more.
"If you're planning on heading out the State Fair, it's going to be beautiful," WRAL meteorologist Nathan Johnson said. We've got a "beautiful day on tap, with temperatures topping out in the lower 70s this afternoon."
Through Friday, 829,673 people had gone to the State Fair. Crowds shattered attendance records on five days.
The largest crowd – 125,573 – came on Thursday, when admission was free with a donation of Food Lion canned food to the N.C. Food Bank. Over the past 10 years, Thursday crowds have averaged less than 90,000.
