CenterFest celebrates art, music, cuisine
Music, art and more will take center stage in downtown Durham this weekend, when the Durham Arts Council hosts CenterFest.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the 38th annual festival will have activities for the entire family. Activities are happening in the Durham loop on Main and Chapel Hill streets in the Five Points and CCB Plaza areas.
Admission is free, but there is a $5 suggested donation at the gate.
With so much going on, here are a few highlights:
- One-stop shopping for art lovers! More than 100 artists from North Carolina and 17 other states will showcase and sell their original work in clay, drawing, fibers, glass painting, photography, printmaking, wood, jewelry, mixed media and sculpture.
- Five stages featuring more than 60 performers in music, dance and entertainment. Acts will include Peter Lamb and the Wolves, Durham Jazz Orchestra and Little River Cloggers.
- Hands-on arts activities and entertainment at two Creative Kids Zones. Activities will include face painting, airbrush tattoos, puppet shows and moon bounce and train rides. (Face painting, airbrushing, moon bounce and train rides do have a fee.)
- Another fun activity for the children - a Pop-Up Museum at the Durham History Hub (500 W. Main). The museum is a community show-and-tell of objects old and new. The topic is “Tools of the Trade” and visitors are invited to bring their own objects, collections and family heirlooms and show the tools that Durhamites have used to do their jobs, their hobbies and their art.
