Of course, the first weekend I pick to head out of town in 2012, all of the cool events I want to attend pop up on the social calendar!

Earlier this week, Kathy told WRAL Out & About Readers about the a media table tennis tournament happening on Friday night at one of my favorite downtown Raleigh destinations, Tobacco Road, and now there’s also the World of Beer grand opening at North Hills to add to the Friday night lineup, too.
I’m rarely this much of a fan of franchise restaurant or bars, because I tend to patronize locally-owned establishments most often, but WOB general manager Caleb and team have made a fan out of me. They’re friendly, offer an unsurpassed selection of beer - 50 on tap, hundreds available by the bottle - and now wine, and feature live music by local musicians (like Erik Smallwood, another personal favorite of mine). They don’t serve food, but their neighboring restaurants offer free delivery, which makes for a wide selection!

Tonight (Friday the 13th!) join the gang at World of Beer for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. and meet our friends Adam and Joe from 99 the Fan from 3-7 p.m. as they host the grand opening festivities. Complimentary food will be offered, courtesy of Zoes, Cinelli's (yum!) and Sparians. And if you’re feeling particularly spirituous, join in the prize raffle with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina.

Heads up, beer fans: Olde Hickory Brewery will be featuring 10 plus taps and a cask of Death By Hops with orange peels and Crystal Hops!

P.S. – Erik Smallwood plays from 5-7 p.m. and Daniel Sean Band follows up from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
