WRAL will be flipping the switch Thursday evening to light up the station’s 300-foot TV tower and you are invited!

Come out to WRAL-TV Studios, 2619 Western Blvd., to see the lighting happen LIVE outside just after 6 p.m. (Or if you want to stay in, watch it during WRAL News or catch it on WRAL.com!)

I'll be out there taking pictures of the crowd so make sure you say hi!

The WRAL Tower was first transformed into a lighted Christmas tree in 1960. A new tower was built and lit with thousands of new lights in 1998.

More than 2,800 lights stay on the tower year-round but are only lighted during the holiday season.

Three 5-foot stars adorn the top of the tower, and the colored lights keep it glowing until New Year's Day.
