ENFIELD, N.C. —  One man was arrested in Enfield Friday after police say he fired into a home.

A Halifax County sheriff's deputy responded to 93 Oliver Drive around 5 p.m. after receiving reports that two homes were damaged by gunfire.

Witnesses told the deputy that the homeowner, Steven T. Reid, and 32-year-old Rodney S. Lynch, of nearby 143 Olive Drive, had an argument, and Lynch and another person tried to fight Reid. Reid pulled a knife from his pocket in self-defense, investigators said, and Lynch and the other person backed away.

When Reid began walking back to his home, Lynch allegedly followed with a shotgun. After Reid retrieved his own shotgun, Lynch fired two shots into Reid's home, the deputy said.

Reid told the deputy that he then went outside and fired three shots.

Lynch was charged with firing into an occupied dwelling and injury to real property.

A spokesman said Reid may be charged in the incident, which remains under investigation.
