The cold days of winter are finally over! The change of seasons often inspires a change in your beer palate. Different beer styles and flavors instill a moment in time just right for that season yet seemingly inappropriate during another. Think of a pumpkin beer in April or a light lemony witbier in November. The beers can taste great but the mindset that pumpkins are for fall and lemony fresh is for spring throws your seasonal palate all out of whack. Does it make it wrong to drink them? Absolutely not! There are no “rules” per se for craft beer, especially as the seasons and styles are getting skewed. Mystery Brewing Company’s philosophy is that they ONLY brew seasonal beers on the premise that what people drink depends on the time of the year, weather, etc. We could just list their inventory of spring beers and be done with this article but there are other great beers out there!

We suggest the following local craft beers because they taste like the exhilarating time of spring.

Carolina Brewing Company - Spring Bock - Brewed in the style of a German Maibock, expect a smooth, fresh, malty taste and a slight alcohol warming sensation from this pale lager beer. Available in Bottles & Draft
Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery - Blue Ridge Blueberry Wheat - This is a refreshing beer that has a light, delicate blueberry taste and a nice dry finish. Available on Draft
Crank Arm Brewing - White Wall Wit - Light and crisp, it offers a great citrus aroma from the Citra hops yet still maintains it’s Belgian yeast appeal. Available on Draft
Haw River Farmhouse Ales - Sweet Tyree’s Saison - Sweet Tea Saison is inspired by the South's favorite refresher and has been brewed using only pilsner and wheat malts, flaked oats, Sorachi Ace hops and finished with sweet Meyers lemons and dried black tea leaves, to help suggest the bitterness and hue of a traditional southern sweet tea. Available on Draft
Carolina Brewery - Bullpen Pale Ale - Crisp and mellow, with a soft maltiness, balanced with a flavorful American hop character. Available on Draft
Natty Greene’s Brewing Company - Springfest Pilsner - A super-crisp, refreshing beer that’s the slightest bit sweet, giving you that classic herbal signature with lots of lager flavor and a good, crisp finish. Available on Draft
Brüeprint Brewery - Saison De Brüe - A farmhouse ale with the perfect balance of Turkish figs and wildflower honey. Available in Bottles & Draft
Mystery Brewing Company - Beatrix - A hoppy, citrusy saison made for spring with crisp bitterness and dry complexity - Available in Bottles & Draft

So now that we’re finally in for some warmer weather and it’s time to work in and enjoy the outdoors, these beers are a great welcome to the spring season.
