Durham woman arrested on theft, fraud charges

Durham police took Betsy Lavelle Turner, 39, wanted on theft and fraud charges, into custody Thursday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police took Betsy Lavelle Turner, 39, wanted on theft and fraud charges, into custody Thursday.

An employee of a business at 201 East Main St. told police that she had left her in purse in her office on Feb. 25 and discovered that someone had taken her money and credit cards out of her wallet. Her credit card was later used to make a purchase.

Police charged Turner, 39, of Canal Street with identity theft, obtaining property by false pretense and larceny.

Turner was arrested as a result of a Crime Stoppers tip, police said. Crime Stoppers at 683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
