Durham teens charged with robbery after crash in Virginia

Posted — UpdatedVIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — Two teenagers wanted for a string of robberies in Durham were arrested Thursday night in Virginia Beach, Va., following a car crash there that killed a third teen and injured a fourth.
Anton Perry and James Cunningham, both, 17, of Durham, also face several charges there connected to the Virginia accident.
In Durham, Perry and Cunningham are both charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of common law robbery in connection with the robberies late Monday at 3301 Shannon Road and early Tuesday at 4100 University Drive, a police spokeswoman said.
Perry is also charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Virginia Beach police said the four teens arrived in Virginia Beach Tuesday, and when they started running out of money, two of them allegedly stole a woman's purse.
Police tried stopping the car they were traveling in but began pursuing it before it crashed at a dead-end street. A 17-year-old girl was killed and another 17-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital, where she was in serious but stable condition Thursday night.
Their identities were not immediately clear, because Virginia law prohibits the release of names of victims and suspects under age 17.
Police said say the driver of the car is facing several charges including murder, two counts of felony hit and run, one felony charge of eluding an officer, one count of robbery and one count of conspiracy.
