Durham Teacher Wins National Award
A Durham Public Schools teacher on Friday was named North Carolina's sole recipient of the 2007 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award.
Posted — UpdatedStuart Albright, an English teacher at C.E. Jordan High School, is among about 80 educators nationwide to win the award this year. He is the only North Carolina recipient.
Albright has been noted for his ability to nurture a sense of community with each of his classes. He differentiates his instruction and assignments so each student experiences success in the classroom, and his dedication to writing has led to the creation of several creative writing classes in which students have opportunities to meet authors and have their own work published.
Dubbed the "Oscars of Teaching" by Teacher Magazine, the Milken National Educator Awards were established in 1985 to reward, retain and attract the highest caliber professionals for our nation's schools. The award includes an unrestricted financial award of $25,000.
