Durham sobriety checkpoint nets six arrests

Six motorists suspected of drunken driving were arrested during a DWI checkpoint Saturday night in Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. — Six motorists suspected of drunken driving were arrested during a DWI checkpoint Saturday night in Durham.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office conducted the checkpoint as part of the holiday Booze It & Lose It campaign, which runs through Jan. 2. The multi-agency checkpoint was held near the intersection of South Miami Boulevard and Ellis Road from 10 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

In addition to the six driving while impaired arrests, officers also issued 24 driving while license revoked citations, one seat belt violation, one child seat belt violation and 27 non-criminal traffic violations. They also recovered a stolen vehicle driven by a 15-year-old.
