Durham sheriff hosts gun buy back event, offering up to $200 for resident's guns
The Durham County Sheriff's Office is hosting a gun buy back event to help remove guns from the streets of Durham.
Posted — UpdatedDURHAM, N.C. — The Durham County Sheriff's Office is hosting a gun buy back event to help remove guns from the streets of Durham.
The buy back will be held at two locations in Durham on Saturday: Mount Vernon Baptist Church on South Roxboro Street and the Durham County Stadium from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Anyone can turn in their operational, but unloaded, gun in exchange for a Visa gift card.
Residents will get:
- $100 for a shotgun
- $150 for a handgun
- $200 for an assault rifle.
"Our hope is that by removing unwanted and unused weapons people have in their homes, they will be less likely to end up in the hands of criminals," said Sheriff Clarence Birkhead in a statement.
