The Museum of Life and Science will celebrate 70 years in August

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham turns 70 this year and will celebrate with a big event next month.

Science at Sunset: A 70th Birthday Celebration is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Aug. 12. Tickets are $7 per person. Kids 2 and under are free.

The after-hours birthday party lets visitors explore the museum's outdoor exhibits as they dig for fossils along the Dinosaur Trail, climb treehouses in Hideaway Woods, cool down at Into the Mist and see what bears do at night.

Visitors will get to make their own instrument as they join a campus parade led by the Bulltown Strutters; visit the Captain Cookie food truck, which will feature birthday cookies and milk; take part in a water blaster challenge; and more.

Tickets are available for purchase only on the day of the event from the museum’s admission desk. Guests can either purchase a Science at Sunset ticket as a part of their visit during normal operating hours or purchase them during the Science at Sunset event. Guests purchasing tickets as a part of their daily visit will be able to remain in the park until Science at Sunset begins.
