DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Public Schools and local law enforcement agencies were investigating Friday morning after someone posted threatening messages on social media, according to Superintendent Bert L'Homme.

"We have no specific information about an actionable threat, but safety is our top priority," L'Homme said in an automated phone call to parents. "We are taking this seriously, and we are actively investigating this message."

All schools in the district were continuing with normal activities late Friday morning, and L'Homme said there will be an increased law enforcement presence around schools.

"Please, I encourage you not to continue to spread unsubstantiated rumors, because doing so gives these kinds of threats more power," L'Homme told parents. "We will do everything we can to keep our schools safe."
