Durham school snags spot in National Science Bowl
The North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham is the only school in the state to earn a spot to compete in the National Science Bowl this month in Washington, D.C., according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

On Monday, the Energy Department announced the 69 high school teams and 46 middle school teams from across the nation that will face off April 25-29 in question-and-answer competitions encompassing several scientific fields, including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, astronomy and math.
"The National Science Bowl is one of the most prestigious annual academic competitions," Patricia M. Dehmer, deputy director for science programs in the Energy Department’s Office of Science, said in a statement. "We hope the National Science Bowl nurtures students’ interest in pursuing careers in science and technology fields, helping our nation remain prosperous and competitive in the world."
The N.C. School of Science and Math won the competition in 2008 and 2010.
