Durham rape suspect arrested after standoff
Durham officers used tear gas to flush a rape suspect out of a building after a one-hour standoff Friday morning, police said.

Investigators said they identified Cornelius Hubert Hunt as a suspect in an incident that occurred Thursday night.
When officers went to arrest him around 6 a.m. Friday, Hunt refused to come out of a building in the 1800 block of Guess Road, police said. Negotiators unsuccessfully tried to contact Hunt for about an hour, so officers flooded the building with tear gas. He then surrendered to police.
Guess Road was closed and nearby homes evacuated during the standoff. Police said residents have been allowed to return home.
Hunt was charged with second-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping. He was being processed at the Durham County jail.
Details of the circumstances surrounding the charges weren't released.
Hunt has 21 convictions dating from 1994, including attempted assault with a deadly weapon on an executive or legislative officer, three counts of assault on a female, common-law robbery and felony drug possession, according to state Department of Correction records.
He has served four jail sentences totaling more than three years and was most recently released in March 2010.
