Durham police seek suspect in hit and run

The suspect led a Durham officer in a high-speed chase from N.C. Highway 147 onto U.S. Highway 15/501 and then onto Hillsborough Road.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are looking for the driver of a blue Buick involved in a hit-and-run Wednesday on Hillsborough Road.

Walter B. Paschall, 84, of 5143 Old Hillsborough Road, suffered a broken pelvis and two punctured lungs when his vehicle was hit on the passenger side. He was taken to Duke Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect led a Durham officer in a high-speed chase from N.C. Highway 147 onto U.S. Highway 15/501 and then onto Hillsborough Road.

After the collision, he fled the scene on foot, heading toward the Hillandale Golf Course. Police described him as a black man, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing a white tank shirt and blue pants.
