DURHAM, N.C. — Police on Monday renewed a request for the public's help in solving the death of a Durham veteran who was beaten and fatally stabbed more than four years ago.

Ronald Fetherson, 53, was found dead on the floor in an apartment at 1207 Truman St. shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 30, 2009.

An autopsy found that he was stabbed five times, including twice to the neck, and bled to death after one of the stab wounds severed an artery.

He also suffered stab wounds to the abdomen, right thigh and groin and had other cuts on his hands and arms and blunt force injuries to his head and face.

Fetherson's penis had also been severed after his death, the autopsy found.

Police have not commented on a possible motive for the crime.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, extension 29341, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
