Friday is now a WRAL Weather Alert Day. Parts of Hoke, Cumberland and Sampson counties are under a level 2 risk for storms Friday afternoon and evening. The biggest threat will be damaging winds and heavy rain, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out in our southern counties. The storms are expected to impact these areas from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Durham police are investigating the death of a man who was found lying alongside the road in the 1500 block of East Pettigrew Street around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

<b>DURHAM, N.C.</b> — Durham police are investigating a homicide that took place in the 1500 block of East Pettigrew Street around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Officers responding to calls about an assault found Timothy Lee McMillian, 24, lying alongside the road. He was transported to Duke Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

Police said they do not have a motive or suspect description in the ongoing investigation.
