DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police arrested a man Wednesday and charged him with robbery.

Rodney Lamont Burnette, 37, was charged with robbing Kerr Drugs, 3600 North Duke St., on June 22.

He allegedly entered the store around 3 p.m. and asked for three cartons of Newport cigarettes. When the employee brought him the cigarettes, Burnette grabbed the cartons and started to walk away, according to police.

The employee told him to stop because he had not paid for the cigarettes, but Burnette allegedly pulled out a gun, told the employee “They’re paid for” and ran out of the store.

Burnette is facing robbery charges in several cases, police said.
