BAHAMA, N.C. — One man was pulled from the water and another was presumed drowned Sunday after a canoe flipped at Little River Lake.

Officials with the Durham County Sheriff's office say two men were fishing in the Bahama lake near the 1300 block of Orange Factory Road when their canoe flipped around 9:30 a.m.

According to the sheriff's department, one man was rescued by Fulgencio Linares and Santos Correa, who were fishing nearby when they heard yelling.

Search and recovery efforts for the second man in the boat continued throughout the day but were suspended Monday morning. According to officials, investigators will continue to conduct patrols in the area where the missing fisherman was last seen.

Correa said the men were struggling to stay above water. "It was frustrating to watch a man drown in front of you; to only grab one in time," Correa said in Spanish.

Officials said the lake can be about 60 feet deep in some areas, and neither of the men in the canoe were wearing life jackets.

The names of the fishermen have not yet been released.
