DURHAM, N.C. — A soldier from the Triangle is enjoying some time in the spotlight.

Capt. Scott Smiley was recently named the 2007 Army Times Soldier of the Year. Smiley lives in Durham, but he's stationed in Virginia.

Smiley was serving in Iraq in 2005 when he was blinded in a bombing, but that has not stopped him from achieving his goals.

Smiley recently climbed Mount Rainier. He has also surfed in Hawaii and skied in Vail.
