Durham man with dementia goes missing
Police were Saturday searching for a 74-year-old Durham man with dementia who may be on foot near the intersection of Pilot Street and Wyeth Avenue.

A Silver Alert was issued for Ira Franklin Torain around 5:30 p.m. by the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons. Authorities said he might be headed to 272 Jack Chavis Road in Timberlake.
Torain is black, with short, gray hair and brown eyes, stands 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a Carolina hat, gray jacket, brown pants and mismatched shoes – one black leather dress shoe and one blue sneaker.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 919-560-4069.
Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert system quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.
It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
