Durham man dies after July 24 assault; teens sought

A Durham man who was injured during an assault and robbery on July 24 died Wednesday night, according to Durham police. Investigators are searching for several teenage boys in connection with the crime.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man who was injured during an assault and robbery on July 24 died Wednesday night, according to Durham police. Investigators are searching for several teenage boys in connection with the crime.

Wayne Preston Cross, 52, of Durham, told officers that several black males in their mid teens approached him in Long Meadow Park, in the 900 block of Holloway Street, around 12:15 a.m. on July 24. One of the teens then assaulted and robbed him, police said.

Cross suffered critical injuries and was taken to Durham Regional Hospital, where he died on Wednesday. No arrests have been made.
