Durham man charged in connection with chase, shooting

According to police, Gerald Eugene Walker, of Walton Street, fired shots at police officers shortly after 3 p.m. after he was stopped in a dark gray 1992 Honda Accord in the area of Southerland and Holloway streets.

Walker was charged Thursday with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting, delaying and obstructing a government officials. 

Police also served two outstanding warrants on Walker, charging him with two counts of felony conspiracy, one count each of felony larceny, attempted felony larceny, first-degree sexual offense with a minor and felony speeding to elude law enforcement officers. 

The larceny charges stem from the attempted theft of two Apple computers from the Art Institute on Blackwell Street on June 9, 2011, and the theft of four Apple computers from the same location on June 16, 2011, police said. The first-degree sexual offense with a minor charge is in connection with a 2010 case, police said. 

Walker was in the Durham county jail Thursday under a $7.78 million bond. 

Police were still searching Thursday for the driver of the 1992 Honda Accord, who left the scene during the foot chase. No other information was released.
