Durham IDs officer who shot himself

According to the incident report, police were called to the home of Officer Mack Brantley Grady, 54, on Valley Run Monday evening after he shot himself in the hand.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police on Friday identified the officer who shot himself in the hand.

According to the incident report, police were called to the home of Officer Mack Brantley Grady, 26, on Valley Run Monday evening after he shot himself in the hand.

Chief Jose Lopez said Brantley, who was off duty at the time, was cleaning his weapon when it went off.

Lopez said Brantley injured his left hand and was taken to Duke Hospital where he was treated and released.

Brantley has been a member of the Durham Police Department since July 2004.
