RALEIGH, N.C. — State and local law enforcement authorities will be out in force for the next few weeks to crack down on drunken driving.

The "Booze It and Lose It" campaign kicked off Friday and will run through Labor Day weekend. Authorities said drivers should expect increased patrols and checkpoints across North Carolina.

Last year, 96 people died on roads across the state between Aug. 17 and Sept. 3, authorities said.
