Driver sent to hospital after car crashes into Cary home

According to investigators, a 2009 Chevy HHR speeding on Maynard Road, went airborne, ran into the home's lawn and crashed into a house at 100 Honeysuckle Lane at about 12:30 a.m.

The driver, identified as William Garcia, 31, of Cary, was taken to WakeMed with life-threatening injuries.

Police said there was no alcohol in Garcia's system and think speed played a factor in the accident, which did not come as a surprise to many neighbors.

"We've had a speeding problem here for years," said neighbor Paul Wilms. "Cary police are very good about coming here and having a police presence and issuing tickets to speeders. Obviously, they can't be here all the time."

People who live in the area said many drivers ignore the speed limit.

"People over speed on this road. It's 35 pmh, I see people going like 50," said neighbor Cindy Michelle.

Nearly 20 hours after the crash occurred, the SUV was being towed away from the home, and neighbors such as Michelle came to witness the spectacle for themselves.

"I just can't believe it," she said."

Authorities said nobody was home at the time of the crash. The house is a rental property, and police said that the owner was notified and the tenants will stay with family members until repairs are made.

No charges have been filed. Carter Anderson with the Cary Police Department said that, even though alcohol did not play a role, they are not ruling out driver impairment just yet.

"It'll be interesting to see exactly what caused this accident," said Wilms.
