SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A driver was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning near Smithfield that knocked out power to homes around the scene.

The wreck occurred around 10:35 a.m. on N.C. Highway 210 at Swift Creek Road, officials said. The driver lost control of the vehicle, overturned and clipped a power pole.

Officials said the driver was taken to WakeMed after being pinned in the vehicle for roughly 45 minutes. A Duke Energy spokesperson said 214 homes were without power as a result of the crash.

Highway 210 was closed to traffic in both directions as crews worked to clean up power lines in the road.
