Authorities were searching early Friday for a driver who left the scene of an accident in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Harrison Avenue

CARY, N.C. — Authorities were searching early Friday for a driver who left the scene of an accident in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Harrison Avenue. 

According to an initial investigation, the driver of a Lexus SUV left the scene after running into the back of a tractor-trailer around 3:45 a.m., Cary police said.

Authorities have contacted the registered driver of the Lexus, who lives in Burlington. It wasn't clear who was driving the car at the time of the wreck. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. 

No other information was released.
