One person was killed early Friday when an SUV slammed into a tree, Fayetteville police said.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — One person was killed early Friday when an SUV slammed into a tree, police said.

The wreck occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on the 1400 block of Pamalee Drive, police said.

The driver died at the scene, and a passenger was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The names of the occupants haven't been released.

A preliminary investigation determined the driver was speeding and lost control of the SUV, police said.

Police say a woman was shot in the upper thigh while two men inside the home were arguing. EMS stabilized the woman and took her to ECU Health in Greenville. Both men suffered gunshot wounds during the altercation.
