<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — A driver died early Friday morning after running his car off Fayetteville's Murchison Road and into a utility pole.

Police did not immediately release the driver's identity and were still investigating what made the person lose control of a 2008 Nissan Altima around 2:30 a.m.

The car caught fire after the collision, and the driver was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died.

Murchison Road was closed in both directions from Langdon Street to Normal Avenue for about three hours. It reopened just before 6 a.m.
