A driver has been charged in a fatal head-on collision late Wednesday near the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Ebenezer Church Road, police said.

<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — A driver has been charged in a fatal head-on collision late Wednesday near the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Ebenezer Church Road, police said.

Stephanie Ann Smith, 26, no address available, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in the death of Lidia Del Valle Armeniakos.

Police said Smith was eastbound on Glenwood Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. when she crossed the median into the westbound lanes. Her 2006 Toyota SUV collided with Armeniakos' 2001 Toyota SUV.

Armeniakos, 56, was taken to Duke University Hospital, where she died. Smith was taken to WakeMed for treatment of injuries that police said weren't life-threatening.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
