DOT Finishes Weekend I-40 Construction Early
Crews replacing pavement on Interstate 40 West in Raleigh finished their weekend work on Saturday night – more than a day ahead of schedule.

The work was expected to close three of five westbound lanes between the I-40/I-440 split (Exit 301) and Person Street/Hammond Road (Exit 299) from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday.
Instead, transportation crews wrapped up work and reopened the lanes by 10 p.m. Saturday.
The state Department of Transportation had warned the lane closures might cause backups, but no major delays through the area were reported.
Crews from contractor S.T. Wooten were also closing lanes overnight in areas between Wade Avenue and the 40/440 split. Those closures were to run from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The $8.5 million project will rehabilitate pavement on a 12.9-mile stretch of I-40 where the asphalt was laid back in the 1980s. Regular drivers over the stretch had complained about its bumpy condition.
