WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A dog helped rescue two cats and 10 kittens that were placed inside a sealed container and left under a tree in Wake Forest.

Alley Cats and Angels, a nonprofit cat rescue organization, said Tuesday that the dog led its owner to the container, which was near the owner’s home. The cats and kittens were found Saturday.

“Fortunately for these cats, it was not a typical 90-degree July day, and the container was found in time to save the cats,” the organization said in a news release.

Both mother cats are young and very thin. The kittens are 5 weeks old and 8 weeks old. They are being treated for malnutrition, and some have severe respiratory infections, but their prognosis is good.

The animals will be available for adoption once they are healthy. For updates and pictures of the kittens, visit Alley Cats and Angels on Facebook. To help with donations, visit the nonprofit’s website.
