DURHAM, N.C. — No one was injured in a Friday morning fire that damaged two townhomes on Marne Avenue, authorities said.

Durham firefighters went to the 1300 block of Marne Avenue about 11:30 a.m. and found smoke and fire showing in the back of the townhome. They brought the blaze under control in five minutes.

The home sustained heat, smoke and water damage, and an adjoining townhome had minor damage.

The fire, which started on the back porch, was ruled accidental, but the cause has not been determined, firefighters said.

Two adults and four children who lived in the townhome were being assisted by the Red Cross. A poodle that lived there did not survive.
