Raleigh parks and recreation, along with the non-profit Kaboom, is inviting kids and adults interested in helping to design the new playground at Southgate Neighborhood Park on Proctor Street in Raleigh.

Design Day is scheduled for June 24 at the park at 1801 Proctor St. A kids planning session is 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The adult planning session is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A light dinner will be served. The park is scheduled to be built in one day on Aug. 21.

Participants will learn more about the project, review possible designs and give preferences for the equipment, which will designed for kids 5 to 12.

This is one of several playgrounds that Kaboom has built across the Triangle. The group works with companies with the goal of having a playground within walking distance of every child in America.

Kaboom! grants are usually valued at $30,000 and require the city to match $7,500 towards the cost of the playground equipment, according to the city. Volunteers provide the labor to build the playground. The funding partner is Foresters Insurance Company, which was involved in a similar project at Green Road Community Center last August.
