Deputy Stuns Man in Courtroom

Mandale Williams, 21, of 6972 Timberwood Drive, was in court on a domestic-related issue and got into an argument with someone in the courtroom. Williams began shouting obscenities and struggled with deputies in the courtroom, authorities said.

Several law enforcement officers tried to calm Williams without success. A deputy drew his Taser and pulled the trigger after Williams again refused an order to calm down, authorities said.

Williams was then placed in restraints and taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for examination. A physician said he suffered no injuries in the incident, authorities said.

Williams was charged with contempt of court and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond, where he will remain for the next 20 days awaiting disposition of the case, authorities said.
