Deputies: Man Posed as 17-Year-Old to Get Trust of Teen Girl

A 21-year-old man allegedly forced a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual acts, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 21-year-old man allegedly forced a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual acts, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said Paul Andrew Richie, of 1121 Diehl St., pretended to be 17 years old to gain the trust of the victim's family. The girl said Richie forced her to submit to his sexual advances while he was visitor in her home in October and November 2007.

Richie was charged with two counts of statutory rape, two counts of statutory sex offense, one count second-degree kidnapping and four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. All are felony charges.

He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $290,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 14.
