ENFIELD, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's deputies arrested a 51-year-old Enfield man who they say refused to stop sitting in the middle of a street Saturday.

Deputy Curtis Hawkins responded to reports of a man running in the middle of South Dennis Street and blocking traffic.

Hawkins asked the man – identified as Roy Junior Crews – to come out of the street, but Crews refused and sat down, officials said. Hawkins arrested Crews and removed him from the street.

Crews then kicked out the window of a rear door on a patrol car, bending the metal, officials said.

Crews was charged with being intoxicated and disruptive, resisting an officer and injury to property. He was placed in the Halifax County Jail under a $600 bond. His first court appearance was set for Nov. 24.
