CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — James Moeser, former University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill chancellor, told police he found two deer carcasses in the corner of his yard last Friday.

The deer appeared to have been shot and dumped in his yard, Moeser told police. One deer had a rope tied around its neck, he said.

Police said they have no leads in the case.

Moeser stepped down during the summer to return to teaching.
