Family searching for answers in teenager's death

The death of Lennon Lacy, 17, drew national attention after his family took the issue to investigators, who claimed it was a suicide. The Lacy family remains unconvinced.

“It’s very hard because it brings everything back to the day I had to identify the body,” said Lacy’s mother, Claudia.

Lacy's friends and family say they harbor suspicions of something sinister.

“He had goals; he knew what football team he wanted to play for,” said Lacy’s cousin, Ashley Green. “He loved the [Washington] Redskins.”

Lacy said she fears it wasn't just murder, it was a lynching. She said the belts and shoes he was wearing did not belong to the 17-year-old.

“I just want to keep his name out there and just let the world not forget that our children are our future,” Green said.

An independent investigator, hired by the NAACP, raised more questions. Now, the FBI is conducting its own investigation.

“If I knew the answer, we wouldn’t be standing here,” Lacy said. “God only knows the answer to that. I hope and pray that the FBI finds out.”

Lennon attended the funeral of his uncle the day before, and the independent report said he had an argument that night.

“I’m his mother—I know him better,” Lacy said. “Your mom knows you. You know your children.”
