CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Cumberland County Schools is warning parents and students about a possible sick out that could affect school bus routes on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

The system alerted parents to the situation on Friday so they would have time to prepare should students be unable to ride the bus. It's not known how many routes could be impacted.

"District officials recently learned that several CCS bus drivers may be absent on Tuesday, November 9," read the statement. "At this time, we are unable to confirm how many bus routes may be affected."

"As school officials learn more, they will alert families if bus transportation is unavailable for specific routes. However, the official notification may not be available until early Tuesday morning. Therefore, with a focus on ensuring our students arrive at school safely, we encourage parents to consider arranging before and after school transportation for their students on November 9."

CCS said they'll continue to update parents over the weekend.

In Wake County, some school bus drivers continued to call out sick to work this week in protest of low wages and poor working conditions.
