Cumberland authorities have charged a man and his wife with assaulting his 12-year-old child.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — A Cumberland County couple was taken to jail on child abuse charges.<br />

Authorities arrested Frank and Brooke Echevarria on Thursday. Investigators said Frank Echevarria woke his 12-year-old son on Oct. 14, punching him and grabbing him by the neck.

Frank Echevarria is charged with felony child abuse, felony assault inflicting serious injury by strangulation and child neglect. Brooke Echevarria, the child's stepmother, has been charged with aiding child abuse and neglect.

According to Highway Patrol, the crash was the result of a chase that started in Harnett County and ended on North Bragg Boulevard and Mckenzie Road in Spring Lake.

According to the Danville Police Department, officers received a tip of prior animal abuse at a pet grooming store on Hairston Street in Danville. In the complaint, a video showed the employee, identified as 22-year-old Cassidy Gill, striking a dog in January and February. The video in the complaint was shared with other social media accounts, including PETA.
