APEX, N.C. — Crews from the North Carolina Department of Transportation will begin work Thursday to pavement settlement issues on the Triangle Expressway.

The first location is on northbound N.C. Highway 540 near Exit 56A (to northbound U.S.Highway 1), and the second is on northbound N.C. 540 between mile markers 54.2 and 54.4, near Apex.

Crews will repair the settlement on the expressway and the pipes that cross under those sections of highway. Crews will drill holes in the slabs on the highway before pumping in grout to raise the level of the road.

Initially, crews will work between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nov. 12-17. The work will require the closure of the shoulder and one to two travel lanes at Exit 56A.

Once that work is complete, crews will move on to the second location, where similar lane closures will be used next week.
