The Triangle-area's coronavirus numbers have shown marked improvement in recent weeks, with now only 229 COVID patients in the Triangle’s three main hospital systems, of which 37 are in the ICU.

To compare those totals from several weeks ago is a welcome relief in the state's battle against COVID-19. Total hospitalizations are down 55 percent in our main area hospitals of UNC Health, Duke Health and WakeMed.

A look at Thursday's numbers:

  • UNC Health: 120 COVID patients, 20 in the ICU

Approximately 71 percent of the state's adults are fully vaccinated. Wake, Durham and Orange counties have all dropped mask mandates for indoor settings.
