RALEIGH, N.C. — Durham-based Counter Culture Coffee has brewed up another champion.

Erin McCarthy, a brewer and machine technician at Counter Culture Coffee in New York, was crowned the World Brewers Cup champion on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia.

McCarthy previously won the 2013 United States Brewers Cup, earning him a spot in the world competition.

According to Sprudge.com, which has great coverage of the event, McCarthy used Counter Culture's Hacienda Esmeralda Geisha roast produced by the Peterson Family on their farm in Boquete, Panama. The Peterson's are famous in the coffee scene. Find out more about them on their website.

This isn't the first time Counter Culture has won honors. McCarthy was coached by last year's U.S. Barista Champion Katie Carguilo, also of Counter Culture, and Everyman Espresso's Sam Penix, who is a U.S. regional certified judge.
